Diggin' In @ Moscone

With this being the last day at the show, we had to make sure that we got through everything we had to. Craig had to attend his Art Director's Symposium and I wanted to go through a few booths a little more carefully then the first time we went through.

I also wanted to talk to the folks at RealMac Software and find out what my problem was with RapidWeaver. As it turns out though, I probably won't be using it for the EZ Mac Podcast because Apple added a program called iWeb to their iLife '06 suite of apps.

All of the larger vendors had booths that you could walk into and through. Whereas the smaller ones just had booths that were 20' wide by 10' deep lined up next to each other; flea market-style, for lack of a better description.

Larger vendors such as Microsoft, Quark, Adobe and Apple had presentation stages integrated into their booths for scheduled presentations about the wares they were showing off. Macintosh media outlets also had presentation booths where special guest speakers would come in and give informative presentations that all were welcome to listen to. We saw Christopher Breen from Macworld magazine and author Ted Landau.

There were also a couple of booths where you could actually buy things and walk away with them. Dr. Bott's and Guitar Center come to mind. B & H from New York were there with some pretty good show specials, but you could only order from their booth, not actually take your purchase home with you.

About the picture of Confusious Craig - he tries on this hat and a lady comes out and tells him it's $1 to take pictures. Man, anything for a buck!

All in all, the show was everything I expected it to be. Lots of cool new stuff to see. Lots of iPod accessories to be sure and I even got see Kato Kaelin.

Our First Full Day

Well, Thursday represented our first full fun day in SF. On Wednesday I felt like crap after that turbulent flight here. That, and I had been getting up pretty late these past few weeks and I had to get up at 6 a.m. to catch my flight here. I was lagged.

We got up and went to Mel's Diner for breakfast - a block from the show...and three from our hotel, the Monticello Inn. The place was packed and this diner is no train car-sized diner, it's a big one. The food was great - Craig had a milkshake with/for his breakfast.

After registering, we headed into the show. It was exactly how I pictured it. Over 300 vendors with tons of foot traffic happening. With me a Craig travelling down the aisles together, it's kind of hard to explore each and every booth that we wanted, but it took us a few hours just to breeze through the place.

One bummer thing was that Craig dropped his iPod nano and it broke. Not physically, but it didn't display items properly on the screen. Fortunately, AppleCare had a desk right within the Apple booth. Craig is getting his iPod fixed or replaced...probably the latter.

We're here!

Craig & arrived safely after a pretty crappy flight into San Fran. We decided not to head to the show until Thursday and that way we could do whatever we wanted once we made it to the show and also during the day on Wednesday.

San Francisco appears to be a really nice-looking city, not unlike other big cities in the U.S. in the downtown area. However, once you get close the water, the scenery is unique.

The ads for the new Intel Macs are everywhere. The city is covered in them. That, and ads for iPods are pretty prevelant too.

My Bags Aren't Packed, But I'm Ready To Go

This blog page is going to be used as a posting board for pictures and stories from my trip to San Francisco to partake in the MacWorld Expo to be held at the Moscone Convention Center from Jan. 9-13. We will not be arriving there until the 11th. My companion while I'm there, (and ever since my second year in college) is Craig Harvieux who resides in Cleveland, OH.

He's my Canadian friend who lives in the U.S. and I'm his American friend who lives in Canada. Without him, I would not be able to go to this great event in what I'm sure is an awesome city.

Stay tuned.
